From Social Housing Alliance to Alliance Against Displacement

Alliance Against Displacement has been organizing with communities facing displacement since 2013. In our years of organizing, we have undergone organizational changes that reflect the needs of communities as well as the development of our political analysis.

In 2015, we changed our name from the Social Housing Alliance to the Alliance Against Displacement to reflect our growths. Whereas the Social Housing Alliance focused specifically on displacement pressures in the Metro Vancouver area, the Alliance Against Displacement has broadened our community engagements to include areas outside of the Vancouver region.

As our campaigns, such as Stop Demovictions Burnaby, make clear, we are deeply involved in anti-displacement campaigns within the Lower Mainland. But we have also bridged out to form relationships with communities in places like Maple Ridge, Victoria, and Nanaimo.
